RESTORED Marriage Testimony: “OW Announced She Was Pregnant”

What brought you to RMI? Please use this space to briefly let our readers know what your life was like when you first found us, Peggy, so our readers understand just what a miracle your restoration is.

Peggy, how did your restoration actually begin?

My husband went to visit his son and didn't come home. After about a week, he told me he wasn't happy and wanted a divorce. That was April, four years ago. I found out there was an OW and that my husband was living with her. He came home telling me he broke it off with the OW, but was only home for a few weeks before he went back to her. There were about 2 months when my husband just "disappeared." During those two months, I didn't have any contact with him. I was going to church and just wanted my marriage restored. I knew God can do anything because He is in the miracle business.

Then I did an internet search for saving my marriage and came across the RMI website. I felt the Holy Spirit come over me and I knew God led me to RMI. My husband came home in August, once before I found RMI. After he was home that first month, however, he left again, I just wanted to die. I was having health issues with my gallbladder and I was supposed to schedule surgery. Then, in July, my husband was hospitalized for heart trouble. The OW was there at the hospital. I actually spent 2 nights in a hospital room with my husband and the OW. Only by God's grace was He able to help me through that. I was dying inside seeing the OW sitting on the bed with my husband while I sat on the couch.

How did God change your situation Peggy as you sought Him wholeheartedly?

How did God change your situation as you sought Him wholeheartedly? *

My husband started coming home to see me. The first few times he did, I wasn't home because I was at church or Bible study. My husband was calling to ask me for some paperwork he needed. My husband started showing me affection and telling me he loved me. We became intimate again. The OW became bitter as wormwood. She and my husband were fighting all the time. She was back in contact with her husband and seeing her husband without my husband knowing. The sick feeling in the pit of my stomach was gone. I had inner peace. My husband would drop the OW at work than spend time with me before he picked her up.

What principles, from God's Word (or through our resources), Peggy, did the Lord teach you during this trial?

I was the contentious woman. I was selfish and mean. I treated my husband like a child. I was disrespectful. But I learned to shut my mouth and have a kind and gentle spirit. I learned my husband wasn't the enemy, but a slave of the enemy. I learned my husband is my authority and spiritual leader. It was my own fault that I went through hell on earth separated from my husband. It happened because I stopped putting God first in my life.

What were the most difficult times that God helped you through Peggy?

Having surgery because I was alone. No one was there for me. A friend picked me up from the hospital and took me home.

Also difficult was being at the hospital with my husband and the OW. The OW was sleeping on the bed next to my husband while I slept on the couch. God totally got me through that. He gave peace to be there for my husband and deal with the medical tests and doctors.

Another difficulty was when the OW announced she was pregnant and we didn't know who the father was. She left my husband in October to be with her husband, but then went back to my husband after she found out about the pregnancy. My husband was home with me in October before going back to OW in November.

Peggy, what was the “turning point” of your restoration?

I had my gallbladder removed a couple days before Thanksgiving. I spent the holidays with a friend because I couldn't walk up two flights of stairs to get into my house. When I got home, I had chest pains and ended up back in the hospital. I had another surgical procedure done for heart tests. My husband walked in my hospital room not long after my second surgery and He handed me divorce papers. All I could whisper was "I love you" to him. He told me to read the papers and I did. So much of what the papers said was incorrect. But the basic personal contact information was wrong. I handed them back to him without saying a word and he left. OW texted me later that day how she and my husband were going to get married. I ignored the text and didn't reply. The text came from my husband's phone, but I know it was from OW.

Tell us HOW it happened Peggy? Did your husband just walk in the front door?

Two weeks later, I fasted for 3 days. Flat on my face on my bedroom floor and I cried out to God to take the pain away. I was so used to my husband not being home that I didn't care if he did come home. I can't remember if it was on the last day of my fast or the day after that, but my husband called me and asked me to meet him to talk. When I met my husband, he came up to the van and said he messed up and that he wanted to come home. He was crying and apologized. I found out later the OW left him days before. Her husband had come and picked her up.

Peggy, did you suspect or could you tell you were close to being restored?

I didn't think I was close to restoration. Things kept getting worse. My car broke down, I had surgery, then my husband brought me divorce papers just minutes after I got out of surgery. Yet, I kept my faith that I was close because Erin said when things appear to be getting worse, you're blessing is close. The closer you get to your blessing, the harder the enemy tries to take it from you.

Would you recommend any of our resource in particular that helped you Peggy?

The RYM book, A Wise Woman, and the Be Encouraged eVideos. Read Psalms and Proverbs every day. By studying the By the Word of Their Testimonies it encouraged me. So did the Question and Answers and Facing Divorce. I also keep 3x5 cards in my purse and read them constantly.

Do you have favorite Bible verses Peggy? Any that you would like to pass on to women reading your Testimonies? Promises that He gave you?

Romans 4:17 "As it is written, 'A father of many nations have I made you') in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and [a]calls into being that which does not exist. The Lord is fighting for him (you), he needs only to be still."

Psalm 97:3 "Fire goes before him and consumes his foes on every side."

Exodus 14:14 "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Would you be interested in helping encourage other women Peggy?

Of course

Either way Peggy, what kind of encouragement would you like to leave women with, in conclusion?

Never give up! If your journey gets too hard, take it one day at a time. If that's too overwhelming, take it one hour at a time or one minute at a time. Keep praying and resting in Him. I spoke scripture out loud until the panicky feeling left me. Pray a hedge around your marriage and just trust God to do it. God takes everything and makes something good come out of it.

Stay close to the Lord and He will put the pieces of your broken heart and life back together. If I can sit in a car for 2 hours next to the OW while traveling to the hospital then staying in the same room with her for 2 days, anyone can get through their journey. I'm not a strong person. I cried a lot.

Thank You Lord that my husband is living at home. Thank You that we don't fight anymore. I see small changes, and praise you for each. Thank You for being faithful. Thank You that my husband is starting to spend time with our daughter.
