A Heart Full of Joy!

"Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever." 1C16:34

I am blessed with four wonderful little wise women, and I thank our Beloved for these precious gifts. In His Word, The Lord says that He makes β€œthe barren woman to keep house and to be a joyful mother of children,” (Psalm 113:9 KJV), yet sometimes I feel tricked into thinking that my children are burdens. My thinking takes a wrong turn, and I find myself complaining about how loud they are or how messy they can be. They are my precious children, but sometimes I forget to β€œtake captive every thought...” (2 Corinthians 10:5). This is where beginning to praise God and thank Him for everything in my life changes everything!

When I wash the piles of dirty laundry, I have a choice; I can think, β€œOh the dirty laundry is never-ending, and I can’t keep up with it.” Or I can think, β€œI am so thankful for my family and that we have clothes to wear.” The first thought gives in to self-pity, and the second thought allows my heart to flow with thanksgiving for my Beloved’s bountiful blessings. When one of my children spills her milk, I can choose to complain and ask her why she wasn’t more careful, or I can say, with a joyful spirit, β€œThat’s okay! We’ll clean it up!” It’s all about choices, and the choices are up to me.

When my heart is full of thankfulness, I cannot complain! This goes for all areas of my lifeβ€” cooking, cleaning, homeschooling, child-training, being submissive to my husband, and all the other responsibilities I have. My responsibilities are blessings, not burdens.

I just love to have a space to learn how to choose thankfulness and to teach it to my children! When they are feeling down, especially my oldest, I remind her of the miracles her Heavenly Father has done for her and continues to do daily. When we choose thankful thoughts, our hearts become grateful, and we keep our focus on Him!

Through positive affirmations, My Beloved has shown me how to fight negative, complaintive thoughts. It is powerful to claim the positive!

Here are some of the positive affirmations I claim:
β€’ I love to do the laundry!
β€’ I love to make meals for my family!
β€’ I enjoy washing the dishes!
β€’ I love teaching my children!

And the list goes on!

My Beloved keeps showing me how to take my thoughts and feelings captive to Him and to enjoy one hour at a time!

  1. Dear Isabella, What wonderful praise, thanking Him is the best thing we can do, a grateful heart has such a positive effect on our lives. I also went through a period where I looked at everything negatively and had a lot of fears. Since having Him as My Beloved Lord, my life has come to peace and my heart is overflowing with gratitude for all the things He does in my life.
I also love to work around the house because I know that it is He who has given me this task as a mother and homemaker. I enjoy taking care of the children and the home He has given me.
I love the blessing He promises us in Psalms 127

Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep. Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Psalm 127:1-3

  2. Thank you for sharing this Isabella. It is so true that our thoughts could easily become negative, but we must take them captive instead. I never knew how much work it was to be a worker at home and with three little ones. I’ve never seen it done in my family before. But I need to remember that all of this is a blessing no matter how many messes I clean up. Choosing to be thankful will help cure my negativity. Thank you again for sharing. I will keep this verse close to my heart today, β€œWe destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.”
